Facing head machines are designed for applications that require controlled radial tool movement while the spindle is rotating. This machining method can be used for internal and external diameter machining, face cutting, grooving, taper boring, and other profile-related operations that cannot be efficiently completed with a fixed boring tool alone.
The facing head uses a movable tool slide to control the radial position of the cutting tool. When coordinated with spindle rotation and axial feed, the system can produce different diameters, steps, grooves, tapers, and machined profiles on a stationary workpiece. This can reduce repeated clamping and help integrate several machining steps into one dedicated station.
HANN KUEN provides built-in motor facing head units, servo facing spindle units, flange-type models, and single or double facing heads. Different facing strokes, spindle configurations, and mounting methods are available for various workpiece sizes and machining requirements.
Facing head units can be combined with servo or hardened guideway slides to create a complete machining module. Selection should be based on the required profile, radial travel, spindle speed, cutting load, tool arrangement, workpiece clearance, and control method.
